Vincent Weyl is Head of ng Connect EMEA, Emerging Technology & Innovation for Alcatel-Lucent. The ng Connect Program is the collaborative open innovation engine of more than 50 member companies that explore and create the new generation connected user experience by bringing together infrastructure, device, application and content companies to create an end-to-end ecosystem. With the ng Connect Program, Vincent oversees the program’s work across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Vincent’s unique perspective on the connected future comes from his diverse career with Alcatel-Lucent and his globetrotting experiences living in Germany, Austria, California and now France. He has an intimate knowledge of Alcatel-Lucent after spending the last 16 years with the company where he’s covered everything from research on GSM networks, software development, business development, product and project management, to community and ecosystem management. Vincent has a strong belief in the positive impact of scientific progress and firmly believes that science and technology can make the world a better place.

And when he’s not focused on the connected experience, he enjoys physics, science-fiction and the occasional sport – although you may not be able to find him at a baseball stadium.

Words in the air

I don’t know about you, but in my case an idea generally stems from a diffuse magma of thoughts or emotions provoked by various experiences (situations, books, encounters, etc.) that suddenly crystallize or click into a concept that I can clearly see, articulate and advocate. It is like a personal a-ha moment that is induced [...]

The ng Connect Gravity Centers: accelerators of innovation

The opening of the Alcatel-Lucent EMEA Innovation Center at the end of September near Paris – featuring a brand new ng Connect Gravity Center — exceeded our expectations. I believe all parties – ng Connect members, guest service providers and companies as well as Alcatel-Lucent representatives – were genuinely pleased and impressed. But in the [...]

Faust 3.0: Breaking Through via Collaboration, Openness and Commitment

Last week my rusty German was really put to the test as I attended the Communication World in Munich. Little did I know that the world barely extended beyond Bavaria and that without mastering Goethe’s language, there was little a guest could take away from this event. Luckily after a short period of adaptation I [...]

Et un, et deux, et trois-zero!

When was the last time you were surprised by a cool innovation? When you laid hands on your brand new tablet? When you drove your new car? When you got your last haircut? When you checked into your hotel during your last business trip? I had one of these moments just over a month ago, [...]

Get these Digital Natives a job!

There are plenty of technology observers today who tend to pitch Digital Natives against Digital Immigrants in the generation conflict of the early 21st century. Isn’t that going too far? Can we really brand the arguments with my son when he refuses to stop playing on his Wii or my iPad a generation conflict? Maybe [...]

Trust

On two occasions in the past month I heard the word “Trust” during discussions on technology innovation, enough to get me thinking about the notion of trust as it relates to the ng Connect Program. The first of these two occasions was at our last ng Connect Ideation Workshop, during a panel about innovation. Roger [...]

Which language should aliens speak?

“Machine to Machine. The Internet of Things. This is going to be big, watch it.” You probably heard or read about this. I did. But somebody please explain to me how that’s new. I thought we had been doing that all along, all these years, that the Internet was some huge network connecting electronic machines. [...]

How close is Bell Labs to Bringing Us Life after Death?

Like many others at Alcatel-Lucent, I attended the Bell Labs Open Days on May 10 at Villarceaux, about 20 miles from Paris. I took my time going around all the demos and taking them for what they were – grainy snapshots of work in progress, hastily put together in an effort to socalize what science [...]
